A LITTLE ABOUT ME…

Thank you so much for taking the time to look through my website and learn a little more about me. It means a lot that you’re here.

So, I’m Lilly. My pronouns are she/her. My friends call me Lil’, Lilly or Lilt (yes like the drink) and the thought of having to write an “About Me” page gives me the ick but here goes :)

I like to think I’m a chilled and calming presence to have around on your wedding day. This is what couples most often say about me which is a huge compliment. I live in West Sussex with my amazing husband Rich and our daughter Winnie. We spend a lot of our time walking amongst the South Downs, daydreaming about our next adventures. When I’m not shooting weddings, you’ll likely find us traveling. We have a bit of a love affair going on with America’s National Parks; particularly Yosemite, where we got engaged. Traveling is a huge part of who we are; whether it be a long road-trip, a day out in the wilderness scrambling up a trail, ordering take-out to cheap motel rooms or exploring a foreign supermarket, it’s one of our favourite ways to reset and treasure each other.

Photography has always been my greatest passion in life. In my personal life I photographed landscapes and documented my travels around the world. I think that’s when I first developed my documentary style and a love for portraiture. I have a background in costume design and fashion styling which is where my love of editorial imagery comes from. I eventually left that career as I knew photography was what I really wanted to do. I covered my first wedding in 2016 and fell in love with the narrative opportunities that weddings provide as well as the human connections. Getting to know people and their stories and then documenting those memories is a huge privilege.

YOUR WEDDING DAY 

It’s a big honour and responsibility to shoot your wedding OR ELOPEMENT STORY, so I want to do it the right way BY making you feel relaxed and calm in front of the camera. SO 90% OF MY PHOTOGRAPHY COVERAGE ON A TRADITIONAL WEDDING DAY IS CAPTURED IN A NATURAL, CANDID STYLE. I personally love photos of me and my loved ones we didn’t even know were being taken - the ones where the real emotion is on show - and that’s what you’ll MOSTLY get from me. I'LL BLEND IN WITH YOUR GUESTS AND SIMPLY OBSERVE. I AIM TO MAKE THESE IMAGES AS ARTFUL AS POSSIBLE, WHILE RETAINING THEIR TRUTH. 
THE OTHER 10% TAKES A LITTLE MORE DIRECTION ON MY PART. This tends to cover your couple portrait session. 20-30 MINUTES OF ME BEING A PROFESSIONAL THIRD WHEEL WHILE YOU ENJOY SOME TIME TOGETHER. nOTHING CHEESY. nOTHING AWKWARD. I PREFER PROMPTS OVER POSES. MY JOB IS TO DOCUMENT YOUR LOVE language AND SIMPLY CAPTURE YOUR HAPPINESS TOGETHER IN THAT MOMENT. I'll aim to bring a little editorial magic to these images while keeping things as relaxed and fun as possible. It's your wedding day. Not a photoshoot!

APPROACH 

When you look back at the imageRY FROM YOUR WEDDING DAY, I want YOU TO BE transportED back IN TIME to that very moment. I want you to feel the emotions of that second all over again. Your wedding is the amalgamation of hundreds of tiny moments and your photography should be a reflection of that.  I’m PRIMARILY a documentary photographer, which means I want to capture all those intimate in-between snippets so that you forget nothing. I WANT TO BE BACKSTAGE WITH YOU, documenting all the things that are left unsaid but not unseen. Because it’s not always the big moments that mean the most to you, OFTEN IT'S THE MOMENTS THAT WERE FLEETING, OR THE ONES YOU WEREN'T EVEN PRESENT FOR.                                                              
MY APPROACH TO YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY IS TO FIND THE BALANCE BeTWEEN DOCUMENTARY COVERAGE AND EDITORIAL IMAGERY. I adore editorial imagery and am drawn to frames which radiate ethereal beauty and ARTFUL composition. However, I also strongly believe in the meaning behind marriage and the importance of truly experiencing your wedding day. I want my couples to be able to loose themselves in the emotions of the day and NOT WORRY TOO MUCH ABOUT MY LENS. it’s my job to document YOUR MEMORIES in the most artful way I can.

STYLE 

MY STYLE IS A CULMINATION OF MY PASSIONS FOR NATURE, STORY-TELLING, FINE ART & DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHY.  I love observing people - seeking out real moments and tRUTHFULLY portrayING THEM thRough PHOTOGRAPHY. I'M HERE TO DOCUMENT YOUR WEDDING DAY, NOT TURN IT INTO A PHOTOSHOOT. I AIM TO CAPTURE YOU and your beautiful wedding day AS YOU WERE. UNSCRIPTED, HONEST MOMENTS ARE THE ONES YOU'LL TREASURE THE MOST.             
MY IMAGES TEND TO HAVE A DARK & MOODY TONE, WITH A SLIGHT desaturated FEEL. I'M A LOVER OF NATURAL LIGHT BUT WILL USE FLASH DURING THE EVENING PARTY FOR A MORE EDITORIAL FEEL. My galleries are delivered in a mixture of colour and black & white. I LOVE TO CAPTURE WEDDINGS THAT ARE AN AUTHENTIC REFLECTION OF MY COUPLES AND THEIR LOVE FOR ONE ANOTHER. LOVE IS PURE CHAOS AND MAGIC; I AIM TO CAPTURE IT IN ALL IT'S AUTHENTIC, RAW BEAUTY.
